Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT GPS This is my first GPS so not a lot of comparison. It was easy to figure out. I do find it is important to try and know where you are going first using google maps or something as the unit can get confused sometimes. Like it thought I was on the frontage road instead of the hwy so it was telling me to do things that didn't make sense. Over all t has been great and useful but could take you in circles from time to time when the sensor gets confused. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Refurbished. Garmin 2595 I owned a few Garmins now and all of them had the triffic light camera which I got so use to so if you are looking for one that has that features don't get this Garmin.

What I like about this one is the voice comand you just talk the address and it will come up with a section of address and you choose a line. I would like to get the others features like weather and live triffic view but don't want to spend the money and I don't know if it is a one-time price or a monthly fee. The app for Android devices don't really work it is useless I read all of the review and lots of people said it didn't work and I had to find out for myself and they were right about that. And I love Garmin GPS but lately I think that Garmin is slipping their maps are not accurate and up-to-date or maybe they can't ke ep up with Florida changing roads.

Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Refurbished. Garmin 2595 My wife and I are retired. We own / operate two cars. Each has a Garmin in its glovebox for those times when you need to navigate somewhere we haven’t been before. Garmin is so easy to use and 98% of the time right on target. It's biggest drawback is the TRAFFIC function. Even when programed to avoid rerouting around heavy traffic congestion – it has a mind of its own, and that is NOT a good thing.

Best bet is to use Google maps, print out your route and have that hard copy as a safety net/ backup to insure against its traffic avoidance insanity. Particularly routing through New York City it is NOT to be trusted. In the wide open spaces of suburbia it can NOT be beat. I also have learned to remove the units from the cars during excess summer heat / excess winter cold. It will shorten the b attery life big time. Smart phones running GPS / Google maps generally offer as good or better results, but alas.I only own a dumb (read that CHEAP) phone! So, Garmin is my choice to get from point A to point B with the least hassle.

I am hoping Garmin (which is a US Company) finally gets around to offering a hard wired – zero battery unit that can be mounted in the car and left there – no matter how hot / cold it gets. Mind Blowing features, create a cheat sheet-VERY confusing at times I just had the chance to use it in two different cities - Pittsburgh PA and Tampa FL.

I am OVERWHELMED with all that it will do and created a cheat sheet that is PAGES long -because there is just SO much capability. I probably will not remember how to use 1/10th of it -but with ease it got me from Point A to Point B (still cannot figure out how to Save to Favorites) as they made some features that were SO EASY on previous models extremely complicated. The bonus on this model is the Pedestrian feature; so if you are traveling you can use in your car and also on your belt to walk around & get to the places you want to see. But extremely confusing to me to use vs. My 3 yr old model I had. I still recommend due to the screen showing you the EXIT sign to look for, the Speed Limit, etc - ju st need to spend a LOT more time learning the 10 basic steps which they complicated way too much - Saving something to Favorites SHOULD be SIMPLE - but so far, I've learned how to save Longitude/Latitude only.it's a start though.

Garmin Nuvi 2595 Map Updates

I would recommend to everyone THEN go through the online manual and cut & paste and create a smaller version of what you really WILL USE otherwise your head will spin due to the complexity & sheer volume of features. This Garmin will amaze you with its speed and accuracy. Anyone who has used GPS for the past few years know that Garmin makes the best unit. I've had 4-5 Garmins since 2005 (plus a Tom-Tom, NavTec and a (shudder) Magellan)and basic way in which you navigate the screens has been almost unchanged. This has changed in the 2595LMT. It has been taking me over a month to get used to it so I'm still in that awkward stage of not finding what I want but getting there eventually.

The processor is blazing fast and it keeps up with quick turns with ease. It has the lifetime traffic update and will automaticly reroute you to the fastest way. In fact, I almost 2nd guessed it the other day when it took me off the X-way to a surface road. Until I saw the sea of red lights where the traffic was backed up. It has the usual points of interest built-in and allow s you to store destination based on 'Where Am I?' Instead of having to type in the address. The one disadvantage Garmin has aginst a Smart Phone and Google Maps is that Google Maps are updated continuously whereas you still have to pull the Garmin out of your car and let it spend the night (on your computer) downloading the newest map.

Overall I'd give it a solid 'B'.

The is the top of the line model in Garmin’s 2012 nuvi Advanced series line. One of the more significant refreshes in recent years, the Advanced series adds several new customization options, improved search functionality and Exit Services. All models in the Advanced series come with preloaded maps of the US, Canada and Mexico.

As the premier 5” model, the 2595LMT also offers voice command, Bluetooth for hands free calling, as well as lifetime maps and traffic. I’ll delve into new and returning features shortly, but first, let’s look at some. Quick links Related models. Drop down to the and you’ll lose Bluetooth and voice command. Or keep those features but drop down to a 4.3″ screen with the. To see how the nuvi 2595LMT stacks up against other models, check out my NOTE: Much of the following is based on my hands on reviews of the nuvi 2495LMT, which offers the same feature set, and the 5” 2555LT. Garmin nuvi 2595LMT hardware notes My biggest disappointment with the Advanced series is that these models do not have a powered mount.

So you’ll have to plug the mini-USB connector into the back of the unit each time you use it. Nevertheless, the 2595LMT does sense when you remove it from the mount while powered on, and records that as your last parking spot. To be guided back to it, choose Apps Last Spot. There is a magnet in the lower portion of the mount that allows it to accomplish this. Powering on and off The nuvi 2595LMT powers off and on automatically when connected to the charger in your car. When you press the power button to turn it off, it actually goes into sleep mode.

According to the manual, “a battery charge lasts for weeks” in this mode. The advantage here is an almost instantaneous power on from sleep mode. To fully shut down the device, hold the power button down for three seconds. NuFeatures Much of this section was covered in my post. One exception is at the, where I discuss browsing the map for POIs; the other is the final section, “.” Dashboards There are eight different dashboards available on the 2595LMT. Basically, these are data field layouts, and are accessed via Settings Map & Vehicle Dashboards. You can see one in the image below.

Map changes – Buttons, layers, and more, oh my The icons on the right side of the map screen are termed map buttons. You can have up to three of the following: Traffic, Mute, Stop, Phone, Detour, Exit services, Where am I?, Trip computer, Map layers, Brightness, Where to? This is a nice feature. BTW, see the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the lower right portion of the nuvi screen above? You can tap that to bring up all twelve of the items available for the map buttons, so it’s easy to reach the other nine. Map Layers also offers three choices. You can choose to display any or all of the following on the map: Traffic, Trip log and Places along the road.

Enabling the latter will display points of interest (POIs). In the screenshot below, you can see that more information appears on the screen if you tap a POI icon. Oh, and which POIs feature corporate logos seems to be solely related to which ones are available to Garmin; it has nothing to do with zoom levels. While you cannot customize which POIs to display on the 3D moving map, it’s a different subject when you go into browse map mode. There you can drill down through many categories, as you can see below. Selecting a destination Tap Where To? I had same problem as Garmin Fan & Crosbo.

I noticed on July 29 that a new updates were available that same day. I made the mistake of trying to apply the updates. I selected “Update All” and Garmin Express kept downloading updates, applying updates while I kept following instructions to disconnect the unit, turn it back on, etc Rinse and repeat. I was at my desk doing work on my other computer and periodically would realize that there were more updates, I needed to unhook unit, etc.

The next day I spent several more hours going through the same routine. All of a sudden it said that there were no new updates. I have no clue if there were no new updates or if Garmin Express just got tired of doing the same thing over and over. I don’t know now if the unit is updated properly or if it’s whacked because of updating errors using Garmin Express. I also have had the same problem as Crosbo where the unit shuts off while navigating and have to unplug it and push the off button multiple times to get it to turn off and back on. It has caused me to miss numerous turns because I’m thinking it’s paying attention and I find out it’s frozen. Any insight on both issues would be appreciated.

An easy way to make the suction cup stick is to use liquid, either spit or have a tiny little water bottle in the glove compartment. I spray one squirt on the suction cup and stick it on the windshield and it stays no matter what. With regards to the built-in dashboard OEM nav systems they don’t compare to aftermarket Garmin’s or TomTom’s. Car manufacturers do not want to spend the money on higher end GPS units because it increases the production costs.

No manufacturer makes an inboard dash nav system as nice as a Garmin or TomTom. Plus, the manufacturers charge out the as$ for updates. My friend had a $53k Acura RL and it was very expensive for map updates plus the nav system was pathetic compared to my Garmin. Kenwood was the only company to make an inboard nav system that used the Garmin GPS, plus it’s expensive.
